James Elwood Horn, 86, of Furnace Acres, died Sunday, March 20, 2011 at the Western MD Regional Medical Center. Born October 7, 1924 in Cumberland, he was the son of the late Henry Lewis Horn, Sr. and May Blanche (Iser) Horn. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Gertrude Lillian (Myers) Horn; one son, Michael Lee Horn; three brothers, Henry L. Horn, Jr., Robert L. Horn, and John M. Horn; and a great, grandson, Nathan Beyer Ruppe.
He graduated from Allegany High School, Class of 1942. Mr. Horn was a WWII Army veteran. He served with the 2nd. Ranger Battalion.
He retired from the Kelly-Springfield Tire Company, having worked in the Curing Room. Mr. Horn served as President of the United Rubber Workers, Local #26 from 1980-1986. He was a member of Wesley Chapel United Methodist Church.
Survivors include his daughter, Patricia A. Molinari, and husband Anthony, Jr., Furnace Acres; his son, James R. Horn, and wife Ellen, Fort Ashby; seven grandchildren, Erika Ruppe, and husband Ray, Michael Lee Horn, and wife Kathy, Michele Morrison, and husband Joshua, Dr. Karyn Fryer, and husband Dr. Casey Fryer, Anthony F. Molinari, III, and wife Nichole, Joan Mairose, and husband Allen, and Jean Cogar, and husband Steve; great, grandchildren, Kiersten, Sarah, Nicholas, and Noah Ruppe, Aiden and Piper Fryer, Deanna Horn, Olivia and Jackson Morrison, Destiny Taylor and Lillian Gabriella “Ella” Molinari, and Krystle Mairose.
Friends will be received at the Upchurch Funeral Home, P.A., 202 Greene Street, Cumberland, on Wednesday from 2-4 and 7-9 PM. The funeral service will be conducted in the funeral home on Thursday at 1:00 PM. Interment will be in Restlawn Memorial Gardens, where military honors will be accorded by Post #13 Veterans Honor Guard.
